Welcome to our Low Risk Driving (Car) course.
This nationally recognised program helps drivers develop safer, low-risk driving behaviours for everyday and workplace driving. It is designed for anyone who drives a light vehicle as part of their job or wants to strengthen their safe driving habits.
Suitable for council staff, field workers, fleet drivers and community-based roles, this course focuses on hazard awareness, speed and space management, decision-making, and responsible road use. Participants build practical skills that reduce risk and improve confidence behind the wheel.
With a strong emphasis on real-world driving situations, the course promotes a proactive safety mindset and greater awareness of how human factors influence driving. This makes it valuable for both new and experienced drivers who want to drive more safely and responsibly.
Whether you are an employer looking to support safer workplace driving or an individual wanting to refresh your skills, this course provides practical, relevant training that supports safer outcomes on the road.
Join us in building safer driving habits and a stronger safety culture on our roads.
This course is to develop safe, low-risk driving behaviours for people who drive light vehicles as part of their work or daily activities. It focuses on helping drivers recognise hazards early, manage speed and space effectively, and make safer decisions in real-world traffic situations.
Rather than teaching advanced vehicle handling or licensing skills, this course builds a proactive safety mindset. Drivers learn how their choices, awareness and attitudes influence risk on the road, and how to reduce the likelihood of incidents through better observation and planning.
This training supports workplace safety by encouraging consistent, responsible driving practices. It helps organisations meet their duty of care obligations and promotes a stronger road safety culture among staff who drive for work.
For individual drivers, the course provides a practical refresher that increases confidence, awareness and responsibility behind the wheel — skills that benefit both work and personal driving.
This course is designed for anyone who drives a car as part of their work duties or wants to strengthen their safe driving habits. It is particularly relevant for workers who spend time on the road as part of their role and whose safety directly impacts themselves, their colleagues, and the public.
It is well suited to council staff, community workers, supervisors, fleet drivers, field officers, and employees who travel between sites or visit clients. Employers often use this course to support safer workplace driving and reduce road-related risk.
The course is suitable for both experienced drivers wanting a refresher and newer drivers looking to build strong low-risk driving habits early in their careers. It focuses on practical, everyday driving situations rather than advanced or specialist driving skills.
Anyone who wants to become a more aware, responsible and safety-focused driver will benefit from this training.
Yes. To complete this course and the practical driving assessment, you must hold a current and valid car (Class C) driver licence.
This course does not teach you how to obtain a driver licence and does not replace any state or territory licensing requirements. You must already be licensed and legally permitted to drive on public roads.
Participants will be required to present their valid driver licence before completing the Practical Drive Assessment.
If you are unsure about your licence status or conditions, you should check with your local road authority before enrolling.
The time required to complete this course can vary depending on your experience and chosen delivery pathway, but most participants complete it within 2–4 hours.
This typically includes:
- Reviewing the learner materials
- Completing the theory assessment
- Undertaking the in-person Practical Drive Assessment
The practical drive component itself usually takes around 30–60 minutes, depending on traffic conditions and assessment requirements.
There is no fixed classroom duration for the blended pathway, allowing participants to complete the theory component at their own pace before attending the practical assessment.
On successful completion of this course, participants receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:
TLIC0031 Apply low risk car driving behaviours
This unit of competency is part of the Transport and Logistics Training Package and confirms that you have demonstrated the skills and knowledge required to apply low-risk driving behaviours in real-world conditions.
A Statement of Attainment is an official record of nationally recognised training and can be used as evidence of competency for workplace and professional purposes.
