In New South Wales, a driver of a bus or coach must hold a NSW 'Driver Authority' issued by Transport for NSW (TfNSW). This is in addition to holding the relevant class of Drivers Licence.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with a Proficiency Certificate that must be lodged with Services NSW as part of the NSW Driver Authority Application.
This course is Approved by Transport for NSW. Driver authorities are valid for three years. You must renew your driver authority before it expires. Transport for NSW will send a notification prior to the renewal date.

The successful completing of the Bus Driver Authority Online course does not lead to a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment or Qualification.
Upon successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with a Proficiency Certificate that must be lodged with Services NSW as part of the NSW Driver Authority Application.
You can apply for a Bus Driver Authority.
To be eligible you must:
Hold a current Australian driver license
Be at least 20 years of age and
Have held a full (unrestricted) Australian driver licence for more than 12 months in the last two years.
OR
Be at least 25 years of age and,
Have held a current Australian driver licence (not including a learners licence) or nationally recognised overseas driver license for at least three years in the last four years.
Be a safe driver and have a good driving record. Your traffic offences will be assessed by Transport for NSW (Transport) when processing your application. For more information click here.
Be medically fit to drive
Be a suitable person to hold a BDA. Transport will assess all relevant documentation when processing your application. For more information click here.
Commercial medical assessment from your doctor (completed no more than six months prior).
Police check – Apply on the NSW Police Community Portal. Your Police check cannot be older than three months. Your Police check must include all current and former names.
Bus Driver Proficiency Certificate – issued by RAISE Training. Note: You can submit your application before you complete the course. When you complete the course, Transport will need your certificate before a BDA can be issued.
Get your documents ready – Have the supporting documentation ready to upload in your online application. The best format for your documents is pdf.
If you have held an interstate or overseas driver licence in the last five years, you will need to get a copy of your licence history and traffic record for each licence held from the relevant authority.
Your certificate is issued when you complete your training. It can be downloaded and printed or used electronically. You can download replacement certificates from your account.
The QR code is used to view your full record of training. This is often used to verify that training has been completed and validate the certificate’s authenticity
Employers must keep a copy of employee certificates, statements of proficiency, and training records. These typically must be kept starting from the date the training certificate was issued until two years after the expiry date. Self-employed persons must follow these requirements for themselves. These conditions may vary depending on the nature of training received. Training records can be accessed from the “Certifications” area within your account. These records are tied to the unique Certificate ID number found on the certificate. These records are often referenced by employers or inspectors to verify training details.

Yes. You MUST hold a licence a Heavy Rigid drivers licence in order to operate a vehicle which includes:
Trucks and buses with a GVM more than 8 tonnes, and 3 or more axles
Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM
Bendy buses. Even though these vehicles are articulated, they’re treated as rigid vehicles.
To be eligible for an HR licence course, you must:
Have held a class C (not Learner licence) or equivalent for two years or more. Any time you’ve spent on a P1 licence counts, but you can’t practice to drive an HR vehicle, or upgrade to an HR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence;
Pass the ‘Rigid’ Driver Knowledge Test (DKT);
Pass an eyesight test; and
Meet the required medical requirements, as determined by the licensing authority.
Drivers upgrading to the HR licence receive up to 12 hours (depending on the gearbox endorsement) of training and assessment activity time.
Transport for NSW Scheme Policies and Procedures state that a minimum of 5 hours or 6 hour (depending on the gearbox endorsement) assessment time plus Final Competency Assessment (FCA) should occur.
If additional time is required for a client to reach a competent standard, additional course fees may be applied. This is clearly explained at enquiry (email and phone), further explained and agreed upon at enrolment.
This course is based on the requirements of the Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) Scheme.
