Why is Maintaining Currency Important?

At RAISE Training, maintaining your Professional Development (PD) and demonstrating your currency is a vital requirement to deliver training and assessment under our RTO. This page outlines your responsibilities, the importance of PD Logs, and how to use our online form to keep your records up to date.

Under the Standards for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), all trainers and assessors must hold:

  1. Current Qualifications:

    • The TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent).
    • Vocational competencies at least to the level being delivered and assessed.
  2. Current Industry Skills:

    • Knowledge and experience relevant to the training and assessment provided.
    • Skills that reflect up-to-date industry practices.
  3. Current VET Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of vocational education and training (VET) practices to enhance training quality.

RAISE Training requires evidence of your currency to meet compliance obligations and provide effective, industry-relevant training.

Course Categories

RAISE Training simplifies the tracking process by grouping courses into the following categories:

  • Chain of Responsibility: Courses focusing on legal obligations and safety responsibilities across the supply chain to ensure compliance and reduce risks.
  • Civil Construction: Training on practical skills and safety protocols for roles in construction, including earthmoving, roadwork, and infrastructure projects.
  • Dangerous Goods: Courses covering safe handling, transport, and storage of hazardous materials to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Fatigue Management: Training on strategies and compliance for managing driver fatigue to improve safety and efficiency in transport operations.
  • Heavy Vehicle: Courses for operating, maintaining, and licensing heavy vehicles in compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • High-Risk Work: Training for roles requiring certification, such as operating cranes, forklifts, or working at heights, emphasizing safety and competency.
  • Resources and Infrastructure: Courses designed for roles in mining, energy, and infrastructure industries, focusing on safety, equipment operation, and site-specific skills and includes Confined Spaces and Work at Heights.

What Counts as Professional Development?

Professional Development activities encompass a wide range of experiences aimed at enhancing skills, knowledge, and expertise within a professional context. These activities may include:

External Events

External events are vital for staying connected to the broader industry landscape and keeping up with emerging trends, regulations, and best practices. These include:

  • Conferences: Opportunities to learn from industry leaders, gain insights into future developments, and explore innovative technologies or methodologies. They also provide a platform to showcase your own expertise and contributions to the field.
  • Workshops: Interactive sessions aimed at skill-building or deep-diving into specific topics. Workshops offer hands-on experience and practical takeaways to apply directly to your work.
  • Industry Networking: Events designed to foster connections with peers, stakeholders, and potential collaborators. Networking enhances your professional relationships, opens avenues for partnerships, and creates opportunities for mutual growth and problem-solving.

Licensing

Ensuring that all required industry or vocational licences are up to date is a critical aspect of professional responsibility. This process involves:

  • Regular Updates: Keeping track of expiry dates and renewal timelines for certifications such as driver’s licences, high-risk work licences, or instructor accreditations.
  • Additional Endorsements: Adding new qualifications or endorsements to your licence to expand your professional capabilities.
  • Compliance Training: Attending mandatory refresher courses or examinations required for licence renewal, ensuring adherence to industry standards and safety regulations.

Industry Work

Maintaining hands-on experience is crucial for staying relevant and credible in your field. Activities include:

  • Part-Time or Volunteer Work: Participating in industry-related activities outside of your primary role, such as consulting or project-based work, to diversify your experience.

Staff Meetings

Internal events are essential for fostering communication, collaboration, and organizational efficiency. These include:

  • Audits: Periodic reviews of processes, compliance, and performance to identify areas for improvement and ensure the organization meets regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Continuing education is essential for career progression and ensuring compliance with industry standards. This includes:

  • Completing New Qualifications: Undertaking formal training to gain certifications, diplomas, or other vocational qualifications in your area of expertise.
  • Upgrading Existing Qualifications: Refreshing or advancing your credentials to align with updated industry requirements or to specialize in niche areas. This could include bridging courses or advanced diplomas to deepen your skills.

Industry Consultation

Industry consultation is a valuable professional development activity that involves engaging with industry stakeholders to exchange knowledge, discuss trends, and address challenges. It helps ensure that practices remain relevant, compliant, and aligned with industry standards. This includes:

  • Consultation with Industry Professionals: Direct discussions with peers, experts, and leaders in the industry to share insights, develop partnerships, and stay informed about advancements. This includes such things as professional association membership.
  • Newsletters: Internal communications that keep team members informed about organizational news, policy changes, upcoming events, and success stories. Newsletters are an effective tool for building engagement and transparency within the organisation.

How Does RAISE Training Calculate PD Points?

RAISE Training have determined the following types of PD Events and have allocated points to each.

Event Type

Attend an External Event such as a Conference, Workshop, or Industry Networking event (7).

Hands-on Industry Work including practical experience and industry involvement (5).

Maintaining licensing and certification, including renewals, and mandatory compliance (5).

Licensing Regulator Audit ensures compliance with standards, safety, & requirements (12).

Attend a Staff Meeting to discuss goals, challenges, updates, and ensure team compliance (1).

Consultation with Industry Professionals, including professional association membership (2).

Subscription to Newsletters including updates on news, policies and current practices (2).

Review Industry News Article including updates on news, policies and current practices (1).

Completing a Vocational Course that leads to a SOA (5).

Completing an AQF III Qualification (10).

The following is a list of internal RTO items that contribute to your Professional Development. Items such as the RAISIN Newsletter will automatically be contributed.

Event Type

Receipt of an Internal Staff Notice (5).

Conduct of an Internal RTO Audit (7).

Attendance to an Internal PD event (2).

The system will be reviewed on a regular basis. You will be contacted should you fall under the required number of points with a reminder to lodge any PD Events that you have completed.

You will be required to accumulate a minimum of 25 points every year, for each of the course types that you deliver – See more below under Course Categories.

Here’s a breakdown of what counts as professional development and the types of evidence you should provide for each category:

External Events

Participating in external events is vital for staying connected to industry trends and best practices. Evidence may include:

  • Conferences: Provide certificates of attendance, programs, or registration receipts that detail the topics covered and your participation.
  • Workshops: Include certificates of completion, workshop materials, or photos showing your active involvement.
  • Industry Networking: Submit event invitations, attendance confirmations, or follow-up communications with industry peers.

Licensing

Keeping your industry licences up to date is a professional responsibility. Evidence should demonstrate compliance, including:

  • Renewed Licences: Copies of your updated licences or renewal confirmations.
  • Additional Endorsements: Certificates or documents showing new qualifications added to your licence.
  • Compliance Training: Certificates of completion for refresher courses or assessments required for licence maintenance.
  • Auditing Records: Documentation from licensing regulators confirming successful audits or inspections.

Industry Work

Qualifications

  • New Qualifications: Certificates, diplomas, or transcripts from accredited training providers.
  • Upgraded Qualifications: Documentation of bridging courses, refresher training, or advanced certifications.

Industry Consultation

Engaging with industry professionals ensures your practices remain relevant and compliant. Evidence may include:

  • Consultations: Meeting notes, emails, or summaries of discussions with industry professionals or associations.
  • Professional Association Membership: Membership confirmation letters, invoices, or certificates of active involvement.
  • Newsletters: Copies of newsletters, internal communications, or updates shared with your team or organisation.

How to Track Your Professional Development Points

Refer to the PD Event Points Table for a breakdown of activities and their corresponding point values. Ensure you accumulate a minimum of 25 points annually for each course category you deliver. Maintain organised records of your activities and evidence to streamline the reporting process.

By keeping accurate and comprehensive records of your professional development activities, you demonstrate your commitment to maintaining high standards in your industry and staying at the forefront of your field.

RAISE Training maintains a record of your points. If your score falls below 25, you’ll receive a reminder to log additional activities.

  • Below 15 Points: The Training Manager will contact you to discuss options.
  • Below 10 Points: Your ability to train with RAISE Training may be temporarily suspended until your currency is rectified.

How to Lodge PD Events

You can easily log your PD activities using the RAISE Training PD Log online form. Follow these steps:

1. Access the Form

2. Identify Yourself

Provide your name and email. You’ll receive a receipt confirming the submission.

3. Select Course Categor

Choose the course category linked to your PD activity.

4. Identify the PD Type

Indicate the type of professional development and the points associated.

5. Describe the Activity

Briefly explain the event (e.g., workshop name or activity details).

6. Provide Evidence

Upload supporting documents, such as certificates, receipts, or attendance records. If evidence isn’t available, provide a detailed explanation of how the activity enhanced your currency.

7. Submit the Form

Once submitted, you’ll receive an email confirming receipt of the information which will then be reviewed. The review process will be completed in 24 – 48 hours. Afterwhich, if approved, you will receive an email summarising your lodged activity and the points earned. Otherwise, you will be provided with guidance on what may still be required.
