Learning Outcomes

Course Structure

There are two (2) components of the course, consisting of online theory and practical skills.

Online Component

The general heavy vehicle theory covers the non-driving general maintenance components of the program. Whilst the Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCVBA) theory covers the driving components of the program and are aligned to the DKT a participant is required to complete when obtaining their Learner Logbook.

This program consists of two (2) main streams relating to the operation of a heavy vehicle, including General Maintenance, as well as an appropriate driving unit.

Practical Component

This course requires you to undergo your heavy vehicle licence training through the HVCBA scheme with a qualified heavy vehicle driving instructor.

You will be provided details to contact your local driving instructor and be required to fulfil the TfNSW licensing requirements.

Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA)

HVCBA is the main way to get a heavy vehicle licence in NSW. It allows an accredited Transport for NSW assessor to determine your ability to drive a heavy vehicle, which will be conducted under a wide range of driving conditions, for you to gain a heavy vehicle licence.

For more information on the HVCBA process, go to: https://raisetraining.com.au/AboutHVCBA

Obtaining Your HV Learner Logbook

It is important that you first obtain a HVCBA Learner Logbook, as your logbook shows your progress in building the skills you need to upgrade to a heavy vehicle licence. You'll need to log your mandatory training and assessment hours to take the final assessment.
