It applies to the activities of a person operating a slewing mobile crane with a capacity up to 60 tonnes including a non-slewing mobile crane with a capacity exceeding 3 tonnes, reach stacker, slewing mobile crane with a capacity of 60 tonnes or less and a vehicle loading crane with a capacity of 10 metre tonnes or more with the exclusion of load estimations and slinging techniques to move a load.

A slewing mobile crane means a mobile crane incorporating a boom or jib that can be slewed, but does not include a backhoe, excavator, front-end loader or any other earth moving equipment that has been configured for crane operation.

Do you need a licence?

Before conducting any activities with the slewing mobile crane such as lifting and shifting loads. In general, a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) must ensure that people engaged in shifting loads with a slewing mobile crane up to 60 tonnes capacity has received sufficient training, instruction and information to correctly follow the specific procedures without exercising judgement.

The class of work is operation of a slewing mobile crane with a capacity up to 60 tonnes.

This licence also encompasses authority for the slewing mobile crane with a capacity of:
- 20 tonnes or less - C2
- non-slewing mobile crane - CN
- vehicle loading crane - CV

Duration

The total duration for this course is 40 hours (5 days) as follows for both skilled and non-skilled operators.

The course duration is 40 hours (including 34 hours of training):
- 16 hours of supervised theory instruction
- 18 hours of supervised practical instruction (simulated workplace)
- 4 hours theory assessment (including calculations)
- 2 hours of practical assessment

Learning Outcomes

This course is based on the High Risk Work (HRW) licence requirements.
