Do you need a licence?

Before you can operate scissor lifts or other EWPs in Australia, you need to complete a nationally-recognised training course with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). This covers the operation of platforms under 11 metres in height.

You do not require a HRW licence if operating a scissor lift or a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length under 11 meters).

However, to safely and legally operate an a boom-type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more) in a NSW workplace you must:
– be licensed and competent to operate
– follow safe operating procedures including following the traffic management rules at your workplace.
