Who is this course for?

If you're seeking to advance within your current role, this course provides the essential training needed to operate forklifts safely and efficiently. With a focus on industry standards and safety protocols, participants will emerge from the course equipped with the competencies required to contribute effectively to their workplace's operations while prioritising safety and productivity.

Do you need a licence?

This is NOT a licensing course.

To safely and legally operate a forklift in a NSW workplace you must:
– be licensed and competent to operate
– follow safe operating procedures including following the traffic management rules at your workplace.

Duration

The total duration for this course is 16 hours (2 days) as follows for both skilled and non-skilled operators.

The course duration is 22 hours (including 16 hours of training):
– 10 hours of supervised theory instruction
– 6 hours of supervised practical instruction (simulated workplace)

This course is now able to be connected to our online Forklift Licensing Theory course which can reduce the amount of face to face training required.

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this program, participants will receive the nationally recognised Statement of Attainment for:

Whether you’re a complete beginner or an experienced driver looking to expand your capabilities, this course provides the necessary training and knowledge to excel in the field of truck driving. With a focus on safety, regulations, and practical driving skills, this course equips participants with the tools they need to confidently navigate various driving scenarios and pursue fulfilling opportunities in the transport sector.

Regardless of your background or experience level, this course provides a structured and engaging learning environment to help you achieve your goals and excel in the field of truck driving.

Do you need a licence?

Yes. You MUST hold a licence a Heavy Rigid drivers licence in order to operate a vehicle which includes:

Trucks and buses with a GVM more than 8 tonnes, and 3 or more axles

Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM

Bendy buses. Even though these vehicles are articulated, they’re treated as rigid vehicles.

To be eligible for an HR licence course, you must:

Have held a class C (not Learner licence) or equivalent for two years or more. Any time you’ve spent on a P1 licence counts, but you can’t practice to drive an HR vehicle, or upgrade to an HR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence;

Pass the ‘Rigid’ Driver Knowledge Test (DKT);

Pass an eyesight test; and

Meet the required medical requirements, as determined by the licensing authority.

Drivers upgrading to the HR licence receive up to 12 hours (depending on the gearbox endorsement) of training and assessment activity time.

Transport for NSW Scheme Policies and Procedures state that a minimum of 5 hours or 6 hour (depending on the gearbox endorsement) assessment time plus Final Competency Assessment (FCA) should occur.

If additional time is required for a client to reach a competent standard, additional course fees may be applied. This is clearly explained at enquiry (email and phone), further explained and agreed upon at enrolment.

This course is based on the requirements of the Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) Scheme.
