Regardless of your background or experience level, this course provides a structured and engaging learning environment to help you achieve your goals and excel in the field of truck driving.

Do you need a licence?

Yes. You MUST hold a licence a Light Rigid drivers licence in order to operate a vehicle which includes:

Small trucks with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) up to 8 tonnes. Any towed trailer must not weigh more than 9 tonnes GVM

Buses that seat more than 12 adults including the driver and a GVM up to 8 tonnes

To be eligible for an LR licence course, you must:

Have held a class C licence, (except a Learner licence) or equivalent for one year or more. Any time you've spent on a P1 licence counts, but you can't practice to drive an LR vehicle, or upgrade to an LR licence until you hold a P2 or full class C licence;

Pass the 'Rigid' Driver Knowledge Test (DKT);

Pass an eyesight test; and

Meet the required medical requirements, as determined by the licensing authority.

Duration

Drivers upgrading to the LR licence receive up to 8 hours (depending on the gearbox endorsement) of training and assessment activity time.

Transport for NSW Scheme Policies and Procedures state that a minimum of 5 hours assessment time plus Final Competency Assessment (FCA) should occur.

If additional time is required for a client to reach a competent standard, additional course fees may be applied. This is clearly explained at enquiry (email and phone), further explained and agreed upon at enrolment.

Learning Outcomes

This course is based on the requirements of the Heavy Vehicle Competency Based Assessment (HVCBA) Scheme.
